Leaning In

What if everyone wasn't out to get us? Sure, some people are "sus" as the kids say. But, what if there were some people who want to see you thrive? Believe it or not there are still people who want to sharpen one another in genuine community. "Iron sharpens iron..." Proverbs 27:17.
I was completing an application that inquired what was the best advice I had received. I was introspective because I really wanted to answer thoughtfully rather than giving a cliche. I have learned (and continue to learn) to lean into genuine feedback that makes me uncomfortable. I imagine someone has advised me to do so in other words throughout the years.
I lean in to discover the root of the uncomfortable feeling. I challenge myself to honestly answer where the pain point is. I see it as opportunity to improve, to grow whenever applicable. Sure not all negative feedback is genuine. Sure some feedback coming from a genuine place with good intentions can still miss the mark. However, there are still instances of genuine feedback that truly can be constructive if we let it construct us.
My desire is to continually improve what I do in any lane I'm in and to enhance my positive impact. In order to fulfill that desire, I have to be honest with myself and recognize when gaps need filling. Let's learn to lean in together, so we can pay it forward. Whether a creative, freelancer, small business, mid-size corporation, and so on, how we level up should directly impact our communities in some way for the better. We got this.
The last time you received some unsavory feedback, did you lean in or run away? There's no shame in an honest answer, just as long as we allow that answer to help us make an even better one next time.
At Braxton Management, we take feedback seriously because we take our mission seriously. I certainly hope this was beneficial for you. If this resonates with you, let us know.
Best,
K.T. Braxton
