Do What You Love, Love What You Do

Over the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of facilitating the inaugural cohort of Detroit Creative Futures at BUILD Institute. I am always grateful that it has graced me with the opportunity to hone my facilitation skills, connect with creatives across multiple disciplines, and test my business acumen. There are a few creative advisors who are veterans in their disciplines and have been part of the Detroit creative ecosystem for years. They have told me that the content has been helping them. (Say what now?!)
I was stunned because I could not imagine that I would bring value to brilliant minds from whom I could glean so much. I believe in the concept that "iron sharpens iron." We should never stop learning, and new revelations can come from anyone, regardless of age or experience level. However, knowing all this, I was still stunned and humbled that little me had offered insight to established leaders.
Depending on who you speak to, you may be told that I do a lot. Some days I agree, some days I do not see it, but alas... With multiple business endeavors and now juggling law school, I can stay busy, but I love what I do. While facilitating and connecting with the fellows and guiding them in exploring how to utilize their gifts to maximize their business, I was reminded of that love and have been able to reflect on why I do what I do. I have been taking note of areas where I can improve and evolve.
I love making strides for people in business and improving operations. I enjoy fleshing out people's ideas and helping them lay out actionable steps to move closer to their business goals. Consulting is invigorating. I am excited to lead and grow my team to execute daily operations, allowing me to focus on the strategic, overarching goals. I was tasked with managing the seemingly unmanageable. That's why I have Braxton Management.
I come alive in the kitchen. My mind and passion soars when I create a new dish or make a loved one's favorite. I love food; making real food with wholesome ingredients that makes your taste buds sing. Serving love on every plate brings me joy. That's why I have Kenny's 622 Trowbridge.
I love the freedom to release my creativity. I enjoy talking about my book and exchanging ideas. I am excited to release offerings that marry creativity and community building with problem-solving. That's why I have the Don in Heels Inc.
