In the fourth episode of "Kendall Solves It", we tackle another HR adjacent operational issue. How can a business operate in true efficiency when HR problems are straining company culture? The two disciplines work hand in hand.

Community Question found on Reddit: "How do you maintain a positive culture and keep employees happy? This can be in times of turmoil and status quo."

Kendall's Insightful Analysis and Steps

This is a doozy, am I right? I know, I know. How insightful? Haha. I am sure this question haunts many managers, but it takes true leadership in addressing morale issues. Like most thorough analyses, questions are embedded in the following steps:

  • Take a look at the company track record. What was the culture like historically? Were the founders or appointed leaders intentional about culture?

  • Depending on the answer to the above questions, you have to decipher whether you are tasked to make employees aware of the culture and core values, tear-down to rebuild, or build a culture totally anew. Any of these options may seem daunting, but once you know what your battle is, then you can make your next move.

  • Develop a plan of attack on the issue not the people based on which battle fits your company's circumstance. Massive layoffs are hard to stomach for the ones executing, the ones receiving pink slips, and the ones retained. When that is involved, it is even more imperative to lead with tact and integrity.

  • Open the lines of communication with the team. Get genuine feedback and make efforts to learn their learning and communication styles. There is no way to help them overcome "PTSD" without trying to meet them with understanding and human compassion.

  • Remember the human aspect of Human Resources.

Treating symptoms will never bring healing. Do the hard work, so your business can get back to thriving.
